# Export and import your data

You can take all your data with you at any time. It’s free, and it works offline.

## Export

**Settings › Data & backup › Export to a file** creates “a JSON file with every habit and check-in”, named like `behabit-backup-2026-09-27.json`. Your phone’s share sheet opens, so you can save it to Files, send it by email or AirDrop, or put it in a cloud drive.

## Import

**Settings › Data & backup › Import from a file** and choose a BeHabit export. Importing **merges** with what’s already on the phone instead of replacing it, so you won’t lose anything.

If the file isn’t a BeHabit export, you’ll see “That file is not a Behabit backup.”
