Privacy policy
BeHabit is built to work without knowing who you are. This page explains what the app stores, where, and the few cases where data leaves your phone because you asked it to.
The short version
- Your habits and check-ins are stored on your device. Using the app requires no account and no network connection.
- Your habits are not sent to us unless you turn on Premium cloud backup, sign in, or share a habit with a friend. Crash reports and optional anonymous usage statistics never contain your habits.
- We do not sell data, show ads, or run third-party advertising trackers in the app. The website uses analytics only if you accept cookies.
- You can export everything as a file and erase all local data from Settings at any time.
Data stored on your device
The app keeps your habits, schedules, notes, check-ins, reminders, settings and the “why” sentences you write in local storage on your phone. Home Screen widgets read a copy of this data through the operating system’s shared app storage so they can show today’s progress without opening the app. This data is not transmitted anywhere by default.
Permissions the app may ask for
- Notifications: to deliver the reminders you set. Reminders are scheduled locally on the device. If you are in a shared habit, your device’s push token is stored with your account so friends’ nudges and cheers can reach you.
- Calendar: only if you turn on calendar sync, to write planned habits as events to a calendar you choose and to read events so the Planner can show free time. Calendar data is used on the device and not uploaded.
- Location: only if you add a place reminder. The phone watches the area you picked (“Always” access, so it works while BeHabit is closed). Your location is used on the device and never uploaded.
- Apple Health (iPhone, Premium): only if you link a habit to a Health metric such as steps or sleep. BeHabit reads that metric on the device to tick the habit off; it never writes to Health and never uploads Health data.
- Siri and Shortcuts / Gemini (Premium): if you use voice or assistant actions, your assistant sees habit names and today’s progress on the phone to answer you.
- Photos / files: when you export or import a backup file, save a share image, or print a paper log.
Each permission is requested when you first use the feature and can be changed in your phone’s settings.
Premium: account and cloud backup
Premium is optional. If you subscribe and create an account (email and password, Sign in with Google, or Sign in with Apple), we store your account identifier, the display name you choose, and a copy of your habit data on our servers so it can sync to your other devices and be restored on a new one. Data is encrypted in transit. Sync merges the cloud copy with what is on the device, so neither copy is silently discarded.
Purchases are processed by the App Store or Google Play and managed through RevenueCat. We receive a record of your subscription status, not your payment details.
You can delete your account and its backups in the app (Settings › your account › Delete account) or by email. See Delete your account.
Shared habits
If you share a habit with friends by invite code or link, the check-ins for that habit only (not your other habits) are stored on our servers so members can see them, along with your display name and any nudges or cheers you send. You can leave a shared habit at any time.
Analytics
The app does not include third-party advertising or behavioural tracking SDKs.
Crash reports (Sentry, Functional Software Inc.): when the app crashes or hits an error, it sends the error, the screen you were on, the app version and your device model. No IP address, device name, screenshots, habit names or notes are included.
Anonymous usage (PostHog Inc.): the app may send a few anonymous events, such as which onboarding answer was picked or whether a Premium offer was shown, tied to a random install ID, never to your name, email or habits. Turn it off at any time in Settings › Privacy & security › Share anonymous usage.
This website
behabit.app shows no ads and runs no advertising trackers. Your light or dark mode choice is kept in your browser’s local storage, and so is your cookie choice. If you contact us by email, we keep the conversation to answer you.
If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address, the site language you used and the date, only to email you once when BeHabit is in the stores. It is stored in our database at Supabase (Supabase Inc.), never shared or sold, and you can ask us to remove it at any time by writing to hello@behabit.app.
With your permission, and only then, the website uses three analytics services to learn which pages help and where the site is confusing. Nothing from these services loads until you press Accept on the cookie bar, and you can change your mind at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. A browser that sends Global Privacy Control is treated as a no.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) counts visits and the pages people read. Cookies:
_ga,_ga_*. Before you choose, Google may receive cookieless pings that contain no identifier. - Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation) records how pages are used, such as clicks, scrolling and heatmaps, with text you type masked. Cookies:
_clck,_clsk. - PostHog (PostHog Inc.) counts page views and which buttons, like the store badges, get used. Cookie:
ph_*.
These services see your browser, device type, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the pages you visit on behabit.app. They never see anything from the app: your habits stay on your phone. The free tools on this site run in your browser, and what you type into them is not sent to us.
Children
BeHabit is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
