How to get the most from a paper habit tracker
Put it where you’ll pass it
Next to the thing that starts the habit: the kettle, the bathroom mirror, your desk. Out of sight is out of mind.
Tick right after, not at night
Mark the square the moment you’re done. The tick is the small reward that makes the next day easier.
Keep the list short
Two to four habits beats eight. Leave the spare rows blank or write in a new habit when one becomes automatic.
Never miss twice
An empty square is fine. Two in a row is the signal to do the smallest version the next day. It’s James Clear’s rule of thumb.
How to use it
Pick a layout: monthly (dated), weekly (big squares and notes) or a 30-day challenge (undated).
Type up to eight habits. Keep them small and specific: “2 pages”, not “read more”.
Add the sentence that explains why, if you like. It prints across the top.
Press Print. Choose your printer, or “Save as PDF” to keep a copy.
