Create a habit: every option explained

Name, icon, colour, schedule, cue, goal, minimum version, reminder and your why. What each option on the habit form does.

Updated

Open the habit form with + in the tab bar. To change an existing habit, open it and tap Edit habit. Here’s every option, top to bottom.

Icon, name and type

  • Icon: tap the circle to pick an emoji or an icon (there’s a search box).
  • Name: up to 60 characters.
  • Type: Build (“Do it, tick it, keep the streak”) or Quit (“Count the days you stay clean”). See Build a habit or quit one.
  • Colour: eight colours. The habit’s history, widget and cards all use it.

Schedule

  • Frequency (Build habits):
    • Daily: every day.
    • Days: the weekdays you choose.
    • Weekly: a number of times per week, from 1 to 6, on any days.
    • Interval: every 2 to 30 days, counted from the day you created the habit.
  • Cue: what comes right before it, like “After coffee”. A cue makes a habit easier to start.
  • When: Anytime, Morning, Afternoon or Evening. It also sets the default reminder time.

Quit habits are always daily.

Goal

  • Per day: how many times, or how much, counts as done (1 to 99). Anything above 1 lets you set a Unit (glasses, pages…) and choose how you Log by: Tap, Enter value or Timer. See Log counts, amounts and timed habits.
  • Minimum version: “The smallest step that still counts on a hard day.” BeHabit offers it the morning after a miss.
  • Duration: 0 to 180 minutes. Set one and the habit gets a focus timer.

Reminder

Switch on Remind me and adjust Usually at, or tap Or remind me at a place for a reminder as you arrive at or leave somewhere. See Set up reminders.

More options

  • Streak goal: a target in days, weeks or months.
  • Categories and a Description of up to 200 characters.

Tap Create habit (or Save changes). If you leave with unsaved edits, BeHabit asks before discarding them.
